Are Fabric Shopping Bags In Actuality Doing More Injury Than Are Good?

Each week tons of people use green shopping sacks to help protect the environment, but they may be doing it at the risk of their own well being. You may be carrying more in your bags than what you paid for.

It's impossible to ignore the push for using earth friendly grocery sacks with every retailer encouraging us to use the cloth shopping bags in place of the plastic or paper ones.

A make sift lab was set up at a grocery market and consumers were stopped and had their sacks swabbed with cotton swabs and sponges.

Of the 89 bags tested, 99% had large growths of coliform and at least 50% had too many bacteria to count. It was not possible to differentiate anything because there was a large amount of growth on the test plates.

People should be aware but not alarmed since coliform bacteria can be identified almost anywhere, but the huge concentration in one spot makes the chances of getting ill rise.

The solution. Wash your sacks occasionally with hot soapy water to destroy any germs that are in the sacks.
